THE COW WAS DEAD! by Juliana Palacio Restrepo

Every day I went to do exercise in the “Cerro de Las Tres Cruces”. This mountain located in Medellín (la Mota). Last Saturday as I usually went to the “morro” with a big group of friends something strange and sad happened to me.

Climbing the mountain I took at a fast pace approximately twenty minutes. At the top of the mountain there was some bars to do different types of exercises and we stayed there for about one hour.

When we went down the mountain it was more difficult and we went at a slow pace because it was necessary to take care of our knees. The ground was very slippery and it was dangerous if you went down fast. Around the mountain there is a big field that has many cows and just one bull.

When we went down the mountain in the middle of the field we realized that something bad was happening because the bull was angry and some cows were annoyed by a strange situation.

We then figured out that the bull was angry because one cow was on the ground with her legs facing up and she was suffocating. My strongest friends ran to help her and they tried standing her up for a long time, but the cow was very heavy and what they did didn’t help.

When I arrived to where they were helping the cow, it was too late, my friends looked at me with a sad face and told me... THE COW WAS DEAD!.

This moment was very sad for me because I love every animals and I felt very bad for not helping the cow, but there was nothing I could do, the cow weighed four hundred kilograms.

After this we were all upset and we had to continue our path down the mountain. During the path that was left of the mountain we went down slowly and quietly.

When we arrived at the bottom of the “Cerro de Las Tres Cruces” we said goodbye to each other and we each went to our own houses.

I arrived at my house and I told the story to my family and they were sad. This is how a happy day of exercise ended up being a tragic day for the cow and me.
